HIIT Workout for Runners - 10 Minutes

By Jamie King

As a fitness instructor, I hear all the time from runners that they don't have time to cross train or that it's not important.

As an ultra runner, I have to vehemently disagree.

It doesn't take long to get a great cross-training workout in, since only 10 minutes (the same amount of time you might spend scrolling Instagram or waiting in line for coffee) is enough to make a huge impact on your overall speed, endurance, and strength.

Since I'm a business owner, mom, and runner myself, I know how hard it can be to find the time to get in all your miles, but the best solution I've found for squeezing in a highly effective workout in a short period of time is HIIT, otherwise known as high intensity interval training.

A HIIT workout for runners combines low impact circuits of moves that are designed to target key endurance and stability muscles that will prevent injury and help you improve your run long term.

A great HIIT workout for runners will focus on glutes, hamstring, and core strength while building your full body mobility, and can pack a big punch in as little as ten minutes.

Still on the fence about whether HIIT is for you? Give this quick ten-minute HIIT for runners workout a try as a warmup to your next run, and let us know how you feel in the comments!
